The 112th Battalion (Nova Scotia) was authorized as an overseas infantry battalion on December 22, 1915. Its men were recruited from the Nova Scotia counties west of Halifax, and its headquarters was at Windsor, NS. Initially, each county was allowed to keep a detachment of soldiers who trained in their own locality until the battalion mobilized at Windsor, in May, 1916. There the battalion encamped on a hill at Fort Edward before embarking from Halifax for England on the troop ship SS Olympic on July 23, 1916. While in England the battalion provided reinforcement drafts to Canadian units already at the front. On June 7, 1917 the remaining personnel were absorbed by the 26th Reserve Battalion. The 112th Battalion are perpetuated by the West Nova Scotia Regiment.
