Pte. Percy Allison Weatherby

193rd Battalion (Nova Scotia Highlanders)

Nova Scotia

Spring, 1916

In this studio portrait postcard photo, Pte. Percy Weatherby wears the standard Canadian Army 1913 pattern seven button service dress jacket. On his head is a khaki balmoral with full length feathers common to the battalions of the Nova Scotia Highland Brigade. His cap badge and collar badges appear to be General List badges. He has not yet been issued insignia for the 193rd Battalion.

The original photo postcard was enclosed in a cardboard frame. Handwritten, on the back of the frame is the following:

“Grace Weatherby – Given to her by her brother Percy – May 28 the day before he went to Aldershot”

Percy Allison Weatherby was born in Lower Truro, NS. He enlisted in the 193rd Battalion (Nova Scotia Highlanders) in 1916 and went overseas with them. He later served in the 185th Battalion (Cape Breton Highlanders), the 17th Reserve Battalion and the 6th Battalion Canadian Engineers. He survived the war.
