Padre's Hour

Cape Breton Highlanders

Crowborough, England

June 16, 1943

One day per week, men were able to get together during Padre's Hour to discuss material or spiritual problems with their padre. In this photo Hon/Capt. T.W. Morley, from Sydney, NS, the Roman Catholic Chaplain of the Cape Breton Highlanders, talks to men from the battalion.

In the photo, a few of the men have been identified from memory by Cape Breton Highlander veterans. Second from the left is Jim "Bim" Turnbull from Glace Bay, NS. Third from the left is Alex Yokubowski, also from Glace Bay. Fifth from the left is Moxy MacPherson from Dominion, NS. Seventh from the left is F.X. MacNeil from Beaver Cove, NS. Eighth from the left is "Fess" Campbell from New Waterford, NS. On the far right is Hon/Capt. Morley.

One day per week, men were able to get together during Padre's Hour to discuss material or spiritual problems with their padre. In this photo Hon/Capt. H.K. Ashdown of Longueuil, Quebec, the Protestant Chaplain of the Cape Breton Highlanders, talks to men from the battalion.

In the photo, a few of the men have been identified from memory by Cape Breton Highlander veterans. In the back row on the far left is Angus Patterson from Sydney, NS. In the back row, fifth from the left is Frank Clements from Glace Bay, NS. In the front row on the far left is Cpl. O'Toole (?). In the front row, fifth from the left is Cecil Bragg. In the front row, seventh from the left is Eric Alexander (Sandy) Johnston from Sydney, NS. Eric was killed in action in Italy on September 1, 1944. On the far right is Hon/Capt. Ashdown.
