The exact circumstances of this photo are not known. It shows what appears to be the presentation of a mock trophy consisting of three large spoons with a bowl on top and "Camp Utopia" engraved on the base. The location is not known.
On the left is Brigadier Thomas Eric D'Oyly Snow. For a period during the Second World War he commanded the Royal Canadian Regiment and later the 11th Canadian Infantry Brigade in Italy, which included the Cape Breton Highlanders. After the war he had a long military, diplomatic and philanthropic career, and was awarded the Order of Canada. At the time the above photo was taken, Brigadier Snow was Area Commander for the New Brunswick area.
On the right is Lt-Col. Angus Norman MacDonald, a Second World War veteran of the Cape Breton Highlanders. At the time of the above photo, he commanded the battalion.
Camp Utopia was a large Second World War Canadian Army training centre in southern New Brunswick. After the war it continued to be used as a summer camp. It closed in 1958.
