It is believed that the officer on horseback in the foreground is the commanding offier of the battalion, Lt-Col. Allison Hart Borden. Beside him, also on horseback is believed to be Major Earle Caleb Phinney, the battalion adjutant. Note the members of the silver band on the left of the photo. Citadel Hill is visible in the background.
