Bayonet Practice

85th Battalion (Nova Scotia Highlanders)

Camp Aldershot, NS

1916

Soldiers practice bayonet drill outside their tents at Camp Aldershot. On the left is Titus Mossman who held the rank of private at the time. On the right is Pte. Frank Leopold Hirtle from Lunenburg, NS. The man in the centre, possibly an instructor, is unidentified. Note the straw hats that were common in camp. The rifles are the infamous Canadian Ross rifles.
