Millen Brothers

Circa 1918

Verne Millen is on the left and his brother Raymond, or Ray as he was more commonly known, is on the right.

Verne is dressed in the highland uniform of the 85th Battalion (Nova Scotia Highlanders) but his collar badges appear to be General List. It is possible the photo was taken when Verne first transferred to the 85th Battalion at the end of August, 1918 and was issued the uniform but not the badges yet. He joined the 85th Battalion in France in early September. The photo could have been taken in England or France. He holds the rank of private.

Ray Millen enlisted in the 193rd Battalion (Nova Scotia Highlanders) on March 11, 1916. He went overseas with the 193rd Battalion and later served in the 5th Battalion Canadian Railway Troops. In the photo, Ray holds the rank of sergeant and was serving in the 5th Battalion Canadian Railway Troops at the time.
