In this photo are the medals awarded to John Donald Macintyre. They are left to right:
1. Military Cross - Awarded to Commissioned Officers of the substantive rank of Captain or below (therefore acting and temporary Majors are eligible) or Warrant Officers for distinguished and commendable services in battle. In 1920, the terms were altered to clearly state the award was for gallant and distinguished services in action and that naval and air force officers could be awarded the cross for gallant and distinguished services on the ground.
2. British War Medal - Awarded to all ranks of the Overseas Military Forces of Canada who went overseas from Canada between August 5, 1914 and November 11, 1918 or who served in a theatre of war. The British War Medal above is inscribed on the rim with "A. CAPT. J. D. MACINTYRE."
3. Victory Medal with Bar for Mentioned-in-Despatches - Awarded to all ranks of the fighting forces, civilians under contract, and others employed with military hospitals, who served in a theatre of war between August 5, 1914 and midnight of November 11/12, 1918. The Victory Medal above is inscribed on the rim with "A. CAPT. J. D. MACINTYRE."
4. 1939-1945 Star - Awarded for six months service on active operations for Army and Navy, and two months for active air-crew.
5. France and Germany Star - Awarded for one day or more of service in France, Belgium, Holland or Germany between 06 June 1944 (D-Day) and 08 May 1945.
6. Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with Bar - Awarded to persons of any rank in the Naval, Military or Air Forces of Canada who voluntarily served on Active Service and honourably completed eighteen months total voluntary service from September 3, 1939 to March 1, 1947. The recipient's name was not inscribed on this medal. The bar was awarded for 60 days service outside of Canada.
7. War Medal 1939-1945 - Awarded to all full-time personnel of the Armed Forces and Merchant Marines for serving for 28 days between September 3, 1939 and September 2, 1945. The recipient's name was not inscribed on this medal.
8. Queen Elizabeth II Coronation Medal (1953) - Presented following the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II on June 2, 1953, and awarded to select persons as a personal souvenir.
