A commemorative decoration awarded by the French government to Allied veterans who participated in the Normandy campaign during the Second World War. It was created to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the D-Day landings on June 6, 1944. It was also awarded to a family member if the veteran was deceased. The medal pictured above was awarded to a family member of Pte. Alexander Joseph MacInnis.
