In this studio portrait photo, Thomas is wearing an early issue standard non-highland issue seven button Canadian tunic, leather waist belt, and a balmoral with full length feathers and a 185^th Battalion cap badge. 185^th Battalion scroll type collar badges are visible. He holds a swagger stick in his right hand. The photo was probably taken in Canada in 1916 before the battalion went overseas.
