Two Commanding Officers

The Nova Scotia Highlanders

Circa Late 1970's

On the left is Lt-Col. Robie MacDonald from Truro, NS. He commanded the 1st Battalion The Nova Scotia Highlanders (North).

On the right is Lt-Col. Ian Duncan Curry Macintyre from Sydney, NS. He commanded the 2nd Battalion The Nova Scotia Highlanders (Cape Breton) from September 1, 1975 to June 3, 1979.

Both men wear officer uniforms common to both battalions of the Nova Scotia Highlanders at the time. They include green coatees with deep crimson officer sashes, MacDonald hunting tartan kilts and officer sporrans. The collar badges identify whether they belonged to the 1st or 2nd Battalion of the Nova Scotia Highlanders.

Both men wear the same medals. The left medal of each pair, with the red, white and blue ribbon, is the Queen Elizabeth II Silver Jubilee Medal. The right medal of each pair, with the red and white ribbon, is the Canadian Forces’ Decoration (CD) for twelve years service.
