Circa 1917

In the front row, on the left, is 736399 Pipe Major Alexander Hosie. Alexander Hosie was born in Scotland and was living in Medicine Hat, Alberta, when he enlisted in the 113th Battalion (Lethbridge Highlanders), on January 29, 1916. He went overseas with the 113th Battalion but upon their arrival in England and subsequent disbandment, he was transferred to the 17th Canadian Reserve Battalion to become their pipe band's pipe major.
